My First Emotions Workbook Summary

During the early years (around the ages of 3-8 years) children are becoming aware of their basic emotions and this workbook can be used together with 'My First Emotion Stones'.

There is a fun poem with pictures for each of the eight emotions suitable to this age group (happy, sad, angry, worried, scared, surprised, safe and proud), followed by
spaces for drawing where they can use their imagination to describe what a certain emotion might look like. It is complimentary and safe way to look at feelings before labelling them and is also suitable for children who may not yet have the language skills to process them.

There are also strategies listed which relate to each of the emotions, along with questions where they can think of other ways to help themselves through the more difficult feelings.  When children are able to think of their own things to help them through these, they begin to learn to self-regulate which in turn supports a more positive mindset.

When completed, the workbook can be used to refer and reflect upon.

Ideal for using at home, therapy sessions or SEL/ELSA in a school setting.

36 pages.

Great way to navigate discussions around emotions
Mummy is Sangry an emotion coz sometimes I m sad angry & it feels different like this face makes a rather convincing sad angry face but being just sad like with this face pulls very convincing sad face complete with sound effects or angry like this face switches so convincingly and effortlessly between the two completely different emotions I can now see why he wants to join Drama Club And these conversations are exactly why books like yours are so massively important for our children, particularly at a young age when they are learning to explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions and share them so freely and innocently with us. It s vital we know how they picture their own emotions in order that we can support and navigate them on the right pathways to developing and fine tuning them as they grow but also empowering them from as early an age as possible with the knowledge that every emotion they feel is valid for them and that they can learn to trust how they manage healthy ways to process them.

Reply From Nurture Gnomes:
What a wonderful read! I can picture the faces he's making as he's working out how emotions make him feel and that two can go together (which has given me another idea). Thank for this lovely, detailed review and the super photo - I can see he's going to do very well in Drama.
