Between the ages of 3-7 years, children are becoming aware of the basic emotions (including happy, sad, angry, safe, scared, surprised, worried and proud). When you help them understand their own feelings, it gives them a sense of what’s going on around them and building on emotional vocabulary gives them a chance to practise managing their bigger emotions.
The 'My First Emotions' workbook complements the stones and can give children the chance to explore what certain emotions mean to them, what they look like and ways to support the bigger emotions.
Explore different emotions with the card game, including some fun actions thrown in too! When children are relaxed, they are more likely to open up about how they feel and the game provides a safe and enjoyable space for children to share their emotions and connect with others. With colourful and engaging cards, this game encourages children to express themselves in a positive and supportive environment. It's perfect for family quality time, in the classroom to promote emotional intelligence and social skills or to support in play therapy sessions.
Ideas for using the stones:
1. Go through each of the emotion stones so children understand them.
2. Can they match the stones to the emotions in the book?
3. Turn the stones over and take it in turns to pick one up and talk about the last time you felt that
emotion. What happened? How did it make you feel?
4. Choose a stone and talk about what you would do if one of your friends felt this way. What would you do?
5. Use some toys and give them each an emotion stone. Make up a scenario and talk to the toys who are feeling that emotion. This helps children
respond to other people.
6. Turn over a stone and make a face or act that emotion and see if everyone can guess which one it is.
7. Allow children time for child led play. It gives them the opportunity to explore, understand and let out emotions in a calm way and work through any situations that have happened during the day.

The stones (made from recycled glass) are designed by myself using a decoupage technique. As with anything hand-made/recycled, there may be very slight variations on each product - the beauty of unique items.
