All Emotion Stones Summary
*MADE TO ORDER*
Children learn through play, and these emotion stones can be used by all children, including neurodiverse, SEMH and those with non or limited vocabulary skills. They are a good starting point to help with identifying emotions and gives children the confidence to discuss them openly, in a fun and relaxed way. Further discussions can help with thinking of strategies that can support a more positive mind-set and engaging in conversations about others emotions (which helps with empathy skills and how actions/words can impact others).
When children are using their imagination, they are also improving their language skills and opening up about their own feelings, where they may have encountered a difficult situation. By putting these into words can also reduce the severity of some of these feelings, leading to healthy social and emotional development.
Quite often, children do not have the vocabulary needed to articulate their emotions, yet they do comprehend language, especially when you help label how they are feeling. Since emotions and physical sensations are closely intertwined, this connection impacts both their minds and bodies (interoception).
The 'Sensational Stones' were designed and created in collaboration with a Specialist Play Therapist to assist children in making a physical connection with their emotions. This approach fosters better emotional management as they grow and develop and increases their emotional literacy skills.
They work well with the Emotion Stones; recognising that emotions plays a crucial role in aiding with emotional regulation. When children learn to relate their feelings that stem from emotions, helps them manage their behaviour more effectively and enables them to bounce back more swiftly from some of the more intense feelings.
Schools are currently using these in their ELSA/PSHE and nurture group lessons and they come with a list of different ideas of how they can be used.
